Since the 1960s, the creation of parks has made it possible to preserve natural areas with developed zones accessible to the public. For the Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Council, the challenge is to reconcile the preservation of the environment with a high level of visitor numbers, while offering visitors a diversity of sites adapted to the aspirations of each individual.
Nowadays there are 19 land parks and 1 sea park spread between Théoule and Menton, mainly in urban areas. To preserve this balance between leisure and ecosystems, the Department keeps a constant eye on the environment and the animal and plant species.
